Imagine yourself sitting outside on a beautiful morning, with your friends, family, or significant other. You're at a table decorated cheerfully with wildflowers, and you can hear cowbells and smell the hay in the fields. All around you people are eagerly lining up to fill their plates with bread, cheese, meat, eggs, and other specialities that are about as fresh and local as it gets - they're from the very farm that is serving you brunch.
Next Saturday is Switzerland's national day, and a farm is the place to be. 430 farms all over Switzerland will welcome more than 200,000 guests to the 17th annual national day brunch. This whole thing is organized by cantonal farm associations to "demonstrate the exceptional quality of farm-fresh food and to raise awareness of the work that farmers put into their products and the land." Sounds like a good and earthy start to the day to me - check back in a week or so for pictures!
This is a very popular thing to do on August 1st, so you absolutely must reserve your seats. Go to the link above (german or french only) and choose your canton, then click "suche". You'll see a list of all the farms in your region, with "detail" links on the right. Choose a farm close by and get your favorite German- or French-speaker to give them a call (not tomorrow - Monday!) and reserve your seats. All the brunches run from 9-13 and cost somewhere between CHF 20-35 per person.

This sounds incredible! The local farmers' group here has done free dinners in Greenfield on occasion, but I'm betting Swiss farms are in a whole different league. Enjoy! :)
We've got reservations and totally can't wait ! The perfect thing to do for the national holiday - and with Olivier's family who will be visiting from France for his birthday the day before! We can compare our farms and brunches thereafter ! Great post !!
How wonderful! And I'm quite impressed with the dumplings - WOW!
